The new plugin functions similarly to the old plugin in that it allows you to transfer Sketch components between Lingo and Sketch, however there are some notable differences which are outlined below.

Not reliant on Mac app

The new plugin is no longer reliant on Lingo's Mac app. Instead the new plugin is a stand alone window that allows you to access your entire Lingo workspace directly from inside Sketch. To launch the plugin make sure you've downloaded and installed the plugin. Then select the "Plugins" menu in Sketch.

No "Connecting" the plugin with a kit

The old plugin required you to connect your Sketch document to a kit in Lingo. This is no longer required in the new plugin. When transferring assets between Sketch and Lingo, the plugin will reference the kit that is in view.

Adding assets

Just like in the old plugin there is an automatic and a manual way to add assets from Sketch to Lingo.

Automatic

Select the dropdown menu in the bottom right corner of the plugin. Select "Push all symbols" or "Push all styles". This will scan your Sketch file and push all of the symbols or styles (text styles and layer styles) to Lingo.

Manual

  • Adding symbols - Go to the symbols page, select the master symbols you want to add, then select the button in the bottom right corner of the plugin that displays "Add (#)". The new assets will then be appended to the top of the Section in focus.

  • Adding artboards, groups and layers - select the assets you want to add, then select the button in the bottom right corner of the plugin that displays "Add (#)". The new assets will then be appended to the top of the Section in focus.

Using assets

Just like in the old plugin there is an automatic and a manual way to add assets from Lingo to Sketch.

Automatic

Select the dropdown menu in the bottom right corner of the plugin. Select "Pull all symbols" or "Pull all styles". This will pull all of the symbols or styles (text styles and layer styles) contained in your Lingo kit and add them to your Sketch document.

Manual

Drag the components you want to add from the plugin and drop them into Sketch.

Updating your assets

When there are updates that need to be pushed or pulled you will see a notification at the bottom of the plugin window. If there are updates but no notification is displayed you can manually check for changes by selecting the drop down menu in the bottom right corner of the app and select "Check for changes".
