The Library and Kits serve different purposes in Lingo. Understanding this distinction will help you make the most of Lingo.

The Library: your backend storage

The Library is your central database of assets - it's where all your files actually live. Think of it as your organized filing cabinet behind the scenes.

Key characteristics:

  • Only visible to admins and content managers

  • Optimized for asset management (uploading, tagging, organizing)

  • Contains every asset in your Space

  • Supports bulk actions, custom fields, and saved views

  • Assets can exist here without being in any kit

Kits: your frontend presentation

Kits are curated visual presentations where you display assets alongside context like notes, guidelines, and documentation. Think of them as the polished showcase you share with others.

Key characteristics:

  • Visible to anyone you share them with

  • Designed for browsing and storytelling

  • Combine assets with headings, text, and usage guidelines

  • Control layout and presentation

  • Can be shared publicly or with specific team members

The key difference

Library = Management - Where you organize and maintain your assets.

Kits = Presentation - Where you showcase assets with context for your audience.

How they work together

  1. Upload assets to the Library (or directly to a kit - they'll be added to the Library automatically)

  2. Organize assets in the Library with tags and custom fields

  3. Add assets from the Library to one or more kits

  4. Present kits to your team with helpful context

A single asset in your Library can appear in multiple kits without duplication. Update the asset once, and it updates everywhere.
